The Five Crown Assets
Each day, we measure these five cryptocurrencies:
Data source: CoinGecko API (free tier). All prices measured in USD.
Measurement: Daily at 00:00 UTC. Calculation begins at 00:05 UTC.
Three Core Metrics
1. 24-Hour Return
How much the asset gained or lost in the last 24 hours. Negative = losing.
Example: BTC at $81,000 today, $76,000 yesterday = +6.6% return
2. 7-Day Drawdown
drawdown₇d = (price_now / peak) - 1
How far the asset has fallen from its recent peak. Measures recovery distance.
Example: Peak 7 days ago was $85,400, now $81,000 = -5.1% drawdown
3. 24-Hour Realized Volatility
σ = stddev(hourly_returns)
volatility = σ × √24
How much the asset bounces around. Higher = more unstable.
Example: BTC's last 24 hours = 0.32 annualized volatility (32%)
Scoring & Percentiles
Each metric is ranked against the other four assets on a 0–100 percentile scale, where higher percentile = more cope.
Weighted Cope Score
Negative 24-hour return is weighted highest (60%) because on a green day, the worst performer is the one that didn't go up.
Winner: Asset with the highest copeScore wins the daily Crown.
Tiebreaker Rules
If two or more assets have identical scores:
- 1.Worse raw 24-hour return. The one that lost more (or gained less) wins.
- 2.Deeper 7-day drawdown. The one that fell further from its peak.
- 3.Alphabetical ticker. BTC beats CASHCAT in a 3-way tie.
Reproducibility & Audit Trail
Every Crown is fully reproducible. For each day's Crown, we store:
- ✓All raw prices (hourly for 7 days + 24h)
- ✓Exact metrics for all five assets (return, drawdown, volatility)
- ✓Percentile ranks and weighted scores
- ✓SHA256 hash of canonical input JSON
- ✓Winner and tiebreaker decision
